We gave our last two performances of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" yesterday at The Rhinecliff Hotel. It was performed in our dinner theater style, an interactive experience for everyone. The response was overwhelmingly positive, and the owner of the hotel has already booked us for several shows next year. Frank and Kristen Marquette, the brains behind our troupe (Murder Cafe) have been putting on dinner theater shows for years, mostly in Las Vegas, where they lived a long time. I am so glad they recently moved to the Hudson Valley, so that we actors get to do such fun shows, and that audiences in this area get to see them.
Most of our shows are murder mysteries, but are quite different from the typical murder mystery dinner theater approach. Ours are truly theatrical productions, with a lot of room for improvisation and audience interaction. I can't believe how much I love this type of acting, and am thankful to have such great people to work with. Frank directs and acts in our shows, Kristen designs and sews our costumes, and both of them write the shows. Last Thursday we also gave a performance for a corporate Christmas party in Connecticut. They wanted it to be a murder mystery in which Santa gets done in. So Frank adapted a show he and Kristen had written called "A Merger To Die For," and it became "A Christmas To Die For." It was absolutely hilarious, and everyone loved it.
